Plan Overview
San Luis Obispo Regional Transit Authority (SLORTA, or RTA) is currently updating the Short Range Transit Plan (SRTP) for RTA, Runabout and Nipomo Dial-A-Ride.
The updated SRTP will provide an overview of the status of regional services, as well as a blueprint for improvements over the five upcoming fiscal years, including changes to routes and schedules.
The SRTP is being prepared by an outside consulting firm, Majic Consulting Group, which was selected in June, 2008, through an open bidding process.
Preliminary work on the SRTP commenced in July, 2008. The SRTPs are expected to be finalized in the summer of 2009, by Fiscal Year end.
The SRTP will:
- Include a complete assessment of current systems and their riders;
- Identify transit needs in the County, and review alternatives to meet those needs;
- Ensure that RTA's transit system is financially sustainable, cost-effective and maximizes productivity;
- Make it easier for residents and visitors to use RTA for their transportation needs.
The SRTP will embody:
- Comments from individuals, obtained through public outreach including surveys and public meetings;
- Statistical analysis, including demographic trends and system performance;
- Review of other agencies' plans expected to impact transit, such as road changes and key development areas;
- Guidance from RTA’s Board and advisory committees;
- Input from community organizations such as colleges, schools and social service agencies.
